In September 1990 Pastor Mike and Carol Claypool met with the Church of God's Board of Church Growth. The Vision and plan for a new church was approved and funding was approved in October 1991. The first home Bible Study was in January 1992 at the Claypool's house with two other adults.
By August 1992 a small core group of 12-15 began to worship on Sunday evenings in a room rented at Mifflin Presbyterian Church. A telemarketing campaign began in February 1993 ending with 10,748 dial-ups and mailing list of 1,032 requesting information. Fliers and newspaper ads were also used and call backs were made to all interested persons.
April 11, 1993 the first public morning worship service had 181 in attendance. A new church was born! Growth forced New Horizons out of the Gahanna Middle School South band room and into the cafeteria by March 1994.
In June 1994 the Gahanna Board of Education informed the church of their policy of renting to churches for only two years. The congregation commits to praying every night at 9:00pm for God's direction and help with facilities.
The Sunday School program was started in September 1994. In October 1994 a 6 acre property was found for sale. With a little over $1900 in the building fund, the church endeavored to raise the down payment of $20,000.
On October 29, 1994 with an offering of just over $24,000 the church could "Claim the Land." Ground breaking was December 23, 1994. By June 23, 1995 we received occupancy for our building and held services on the 25th.
1995-1998 was a season of spiritual and numerical growth. In February 1998 the Educational Wing was added and completed.
God Bless you and come join us on Sunday for Worship!
